प्लवन्निलापमध्यगा सुरारिदर्पदर्दनं मुदा मुहुर्विबोधयन्नमस्तु मे शिवः ॥

ಚಲಾಕಲಾಪಶಾಲಿನೀ ತಿಲೋಚನೆ ಲಲಾಟಪಟ್ಟ- ರಜ್ಯಮಾನಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರಸ್ಫುರತ್ಸುಭಾಸುರಚ್ಛವಿಃ ।

ಪ್ಲವನ್ನಿಲಾಪಮಧ್ಯಗಾ ಸುರಾರಿದರ್ಪದರ್ದನಂ ಮುದಾ ಮುಹುರ್ವಿಬೋಧಯನ್ನಮಸ್ತು ಮೇ ಶಿವಃ ॥

Meaning

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಶಿವನ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ದುಷ್ಟಶಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಶಿವನ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ಮರಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಶಾಂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಧೈರ್ಯ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಯಾವ ಶಿವನು ಚಲಿಸುವ ಕಲಾಪಗಳಿಂದ ಶೋಭಿಸುವವನೋ, ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವವನೋ, ಹಣೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿರುವವನೋ, ಪ್ರಕಾಶಮಾನವಾದ ತೇಜಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದ ಹೊಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವವನೋ, ನೀರಿನ ನಡುವೆ ತೇಲುತ್ತಿರುವವನೋ, ದೇವತೆಗಳ ಶತ್ರುಗಳ ಗರ್ವವನ್ನು ಮುರಿಯುವವನೋ, ಅಂತಹ ಶಿವನನ್ನು ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ಸ್ಮರಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಆ ಶಿವನಿಗೆ ನನ್ನ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರಗಳು.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಶಿವನ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯ, ಶಾಂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ದುಷ್ಟಶಕ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ನಾಶಮಾಡುವ ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಚಲಿಸುವ ಆಭರಣಗಳು, ಸುಂದರ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು, ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಧರಿಸುವುದು, ಪ್ರಕಾಶಮಾನವಾದ ತೇಜಸ್ಸು, ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತೇಲುವಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶತ್ರುಗಳನ್ನು ನಾಶಮಾಡುವ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಶಿವನಿಗೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರಗಳು.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಶಿವನ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ವರ್ಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಶಿವನು ತನ್ನ ಜಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಲಿಸುವ ಅಲಂಕಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದಾನೆ, ಅದು ಅವನ ನೃತ್ಯದ ವೈಭವವನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವನು ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ಹಣೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಇದು ಅವನ ಶಾಂತ ಸ್ವಭಾವವನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವನ ಮುಖವು ಪ್ರಕಾಶಮಾನವಾದ ತೇಜಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದ ಹೊಳೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಅವನ ದೈವಿಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವನು ನೀರಿನ ನಡುವೆ ತೇಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವನ ಪ್ರಭುತ್ವವನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ, ಅವನು ದೇವತೆಗಳ ಶತ್ರುಗಳ ಗರ್ವವನ್ನು ಮುರಿಯುವವನು, ಅಂದರೆ ದುಷ್ಟಶಕ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ನಾಶಮಾಡುವ ಶಕ್ತಿಯುಳ್ಳವನು. ಅಂತಹ ಶಿವನನ್ನು ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ಸ್ಮರಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವನಿಗೆ ನನ್ನ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

This verse bestows blessings upon devotees of Shiva and protects them from evil forces. Remembering Shiva’s qualities brings peace and courage to the mind.

I bow to that Shiva, who is adorned with moving kalapas (ornaments), has beautiful eyes, bears the moon on his forehead, shines with a brilliant light, floats in the midst of water, and joyfully destroys the pride of the enemies of the gods, awakening me again and again.

चला		ಚಲಾ		chalā
ಚಲಿಸುವ, ಅಲ್ಲಾಡುವ, ಕಂಪಿಸುವಂತಹ ಅಲಂಕಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ.			Moving, Trembling. Moving, trembling, indicating ornaments or decorations that sway or dance. The movement suggests the cosmic dance (Tandava) of Shiva.
कलापशालिनी		ಕಲಾಪಶಾಲಿನೀ		kalāpaśālinī
ಕಲಾಪಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ. ಕಲಾಪ ಎಂದರೆ ಅಲಂಕಾರಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಆಭರಣಗಳು, ಅವುಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ.			Adorned with Kalapas. Kalapas refers to ornaments, decorations or adornments. The word indicates that Shiva is adorned or beautified by these.
तिलोचने		ತಿಲೋಚನೆ		tilocane
ತಿಲೋಚನೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಮೂರು ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವವನು, ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥೈಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.			Beautiful eyes. Tilocana means ‘one with three eyes’. ‘Tri’ means three and ‘locana’ means eyes. Shiva is known to have a third eye on his forehead, representing wisdom and destruction of ignorance.

Meaning of Words

ललाटपट्ट		ಲಲಾಟಪಟ್ಟ		lalāṭapaṭṭa
ಹಣೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ. ಲಲಾಟ ಎಂದರೆ ಹಣೆಯ ಪಟ್ಟಿ.			On the forehead. ‘Lalata’ means forehead.
रज्यमान		ರಜ್ಯಮಾನ		rajyamāna
ಹೊಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ. ರಜ್ಯಮಾನ ಎಂದರೆ ರಂಜಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ, ಪ್ರಕಾಶಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ.			Shining. Rajyamana means shining or illuminating.
चन्द्रशेखर		ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರ		candraśekhara
ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿರುವ. ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರ ಎಂದರೆ ಚಂದ್ರನನ್ನು ತಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಧರಿಸಿರುವ ಶಿವ.			Bearing the moon. Chandrashekhara is a name of Shiva, meaning ‘one who bears the moon on his head’. ‘Chandra’ means moon and ‘shekhara’ means crest or head.
स्फुरत्		ಸ್ಫುರತ್		sphurat
ಸ್ಫುರತ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಿಸುವ, ಹೊಳೆಯುವ.			Shining, Radiant. Sphurat means shining or radiant.
सुभासुर		ಸುಭಾಸುರ		subhāsuracchaviḥ
ಸುಭಾಸುರ ಎಂದರೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಮಾನವಾದ, ದೈವಿಕವಾದ.			Very bright, divine. Subhāsura means very bright or divine light.
च्छविः		ಛವಿಃ		chaviḥ
ಛವಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಕಾಂತಿ, ತೇಜಸ್ಸು.			Splendor, light. Chavi means splendor or light.

इलापमध्यगा		ಇಲಾಪಮಧ್ಯಗಾ		ilāpamadhyagā
ನೀರಿನ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ. ಇಲಾಪ ಎಂದರೆ ನೀರು, ಮಧ್ಯಗಾ ಎಂದರೆ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ.			In the midst of water. Ilāpa means water, and Madhyaga means being in the midst of.
सुरारि		ಸುರಾರಿ		surāri
ಸುರಾರಿ ಎಂದರೆ ದೇವತೆಗಳ ಶತ್ರುಗಳು.			Of the enemies of the gods. Surari means enemies of the gods.
दर्पदर्दनं		ದರ್ಪದರ್ದನಂ		darpadardanaṃ
ದರ್ಪದರ್ದನಂ ಎಂದರೆ ಗರ್ವವನ್ನು ಮುರಿಯುವವನು.			Destroying the pride. Darpadardanam means destroying pride or arrogance.

ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ಸ್ಮರಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ, ಅಂತಹ ಶಿವನಿಗೆ ನನ್ನ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರಗಳು.

Joyfully awakening me again and again, salutations to that Shiva.

Meaning of Words

मुदा		ಮುದಾ		mudā
ಮುದಾ ಎಂದರೆ ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ, ಆನಂದದಿಂದ.			With joy. Mudā means with joy or delight.
मुहुः		ಮುಹುಃ		muhuḥ
ಮುಹುಃ ಎಂದರೆ ಪದೇ ಪದೇ, ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ.			Again and again. Muhuḥ means again and again or repeatedly.
विबोधयन्		ವಿಬೋಧಯನ್		vibodhayan
ವಿಬೋಧಯನ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸುವ, ಜಾಗೃತಗೊಳಿಸುವ.			Awakening. Vibodhayan means awakening or making aware.
नमस्तु		ನಮಸ್ತು		namastu
ನಮಸ್ತು ಎಂದರೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರಗಳು, ವಂದನೆಗಳು.			Salutations. Namastu means salutations or obeisances.
मे		ಮೇ		me
ಮೇ ಎಂದರೆ ನನಗೆ.			To me. Me means to me.
शिवः		ಶಿವಃ		śivaḥ
ಶಿವ ಎಂದರೆ ಮಂಗಳಕರವಾದ ದೇವರು.			Shiva is the auspicious one, a name of the deity.
