Meaning / Summary¶
यह श्लोक आत्मा की अनश्वरता और भौतिक प्रभावों से उसकी अछूतापन को दर्शाता है, जो कि भारतीय दर्शन का एक केंद्रीय सिद्धांत है। यह मृत्यु के भय को दूर करने और आत्मा के वास्तविक स्वरूप को समझने में मदद करता है।
आत्मा को शस्त्र काट नहीं सकते, अग्नि जला नहीं सकती, जल भिगो नहीं सकता और वायु सुखा नहीं सकती।
यह श्लोक बताता है कि आत्मा को न तो शस्त्र काट सकते हैं, न अग्नि जला सकती है, न जल भिगो सकता है और न वायु सुखा सकती है।
यह श्लोक आत्मा की अविनाशी प्रकृति का वर्णन करता है। आत्मा को किसी भी भौतिक अस्त्र-शस्त्र से काटा नहीं जा सकता, क्योंकि यह भौतिक नहीं है। अग्नि, जो कि भौतिक पदार्थों को जलाकर राख कर देती है, वह भी आत्मा को जला नहीं सकती क्योंकि आत्मा का कोई भौतिक स्वरूप नहीं है। जल, जो वस्तुओं को गीला करता है, वह आत्मा को गीला नहीं कर सकता क्योंकि आत्मा का कोई स्पर्श या भौतिक गुण नहीं है। इसी प्रकार, वायु, जो वस्तुओं को सुखा देती है, वह आत्मा को सुखा नहीं सकती। यह बताता है कि आत्मा इन पांच भौतिक तत्वों (पृथ्वी, जल, अग्नि, वायु, आकाश - जिनमें से श्लोक में जल, अग्नि, वायु का उल्लेख है) से परे है और इन पर होने वाले परिवर्तनों से अप्रभावित रहती है।
यह श्लोक भगवद गीता के अध्याय 2, श्लोक 23 से है, जहाँ भगवान कृष्ण अर्जुन को आत्मा की अविनाशी प्रकृति के बारे में समझा रहे हैं, जब वह युद्ध करने से हिचकिचा रहे थे क्योंकि उन्हें अपने रिश्तेदारों और गुरुओं को मारना पड़ता। कृष्ण समझाते हैं कि आत्मा शाश्वत है, जिसका जन्म या मृत्यु नहीं होती, इसलिए उस पर इन भौतिक विनाशों का कोई प्रभाव नहीं पड़ता।
This verse highlights the soul’s eternal nature and its immunity to physical destruction, a core tenet of Indian philosophy. It helps in overcoming the fear of death and understanding the true essence of the soul.
Weapons do not cut it, fire does not burn it, water does not wet it, nor does the wind dry it.
This verse states that weapons cannot cut the soul, fire cannot burn it, water cannot wet it, and wind cannot dry it.
This verse describes the indestructible nature of the soul (Atman). Weapons, which are physical objects, cannot sever the soul because the soul is not a physical entity. Fire, which can consume and destroy material objects, cannot burn the soul as the soul has no material form to be affected by heat. Water, which moistens things, cannot wet the soul because the soul has no tangible properties to absorb moisture. Similarly, the wind, which dries things, cannot dehydrate the soul. This illustrates that the soul is beyond the influence of the five physical elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether - of which water, fire, and air are mentioned in the verse) and remains unaffected by the changes they bring about.
This verse is from the Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2, Verse 23. Lord Krishna is explaining the indestructible nature of the soul to Arjuna, who was hesitant to fight as he would have to kill his relatives and teachers. Krishna explains that the soul is eternal, neither born nor dying, and therefore unaffected by these physical destructions.
