नमामीशमीशाननिर्वाणरूपं विभुं व्यापकं ब्रह्मवेदस्वरूपम् ।

निजं निर्गुणं निर्विकल्पं निरीहं चिदाकाशमाकाशवासं भजेऽहम् ॥

Meaning / Summary

આ શ્લોક રુદ્રાષ્ટકમનો પ્રથમ શ્લોક છે, જે ભગવાન શિવને સમર્પિત એક શક્તિશાળી સ્તોત્ર છે. તે શિવના દિવ્ય અને સર્વવ્યાપક સ્વરૂપોનું સુંદર વર્ણન કરે છે. આ શ્લોકનું મહત્વ શિવને પરમ સત્ય, બ્રહ્મ તરીકે મહિમાવંત કરવામાં રહેલું છે, જે તમામ ભૌતિક ગુણો (નિર્ગુણ) અને ઈચ્છાઓ (નિરીહ) થી પર છે. તેમને મોક્ષના સ્ત્રોત (નિર્વાણરૂપમ્) અને શુદ્ધ, સર્વવ્યાપક ચેતના (ચિદાકાશ, આકાશવાસમ્) તરીકે દર્શાવવામાં આવ્યા છે. આ શ્લોક ભક્તોને શિવને માત્ર એક દેવતા તરીકે જ નહીં, પરંતુ અસ્તિત્વને વ્યાપી લેતી સર્વોચ્ચ, નિરાકાર સત્ય તરીકે ધ્યાન કરવા માટે આમંત્રિત કરે છે, જે આધ્યાત્મિક જ્ઞાન અને મુક્તિ તરફ દોરી જાય છે.

હું ઈશ્વરને નમન કરું છું, જે ઈશાન દિશાના સ્વામી, મોક્ષના સ્વરૂપવાળા, સર્વવ્યાપક, અને બ્રહ્મ તેમજ વેદના સ્વરૂપવાળા છે. હું તે દેવને ભજું છું જે નિજ સ્વરૂપ, ગુણોથી પર, ભેદ રહિત, ઈચ્છા રહિત, ચેતનાના આકાશ સમાન અને આકાશમાં નિવાસ કરનારા છે.

આ શ્લોક ભગવાન શિવને સંબોધિત એક પ્રારંભિક સ્તુતિ છે, જે તેમને મુક્તિના સાર, સર્વવ્યાપક, દૈવી જ્ઞાનના સાક્ષાત સ્વરૂપ, તમામ ભૌતિક ગુણધર્મોથી પર, ઈચ્છા રહિત, શુદ્ધ ચેતના સ્વરૂપ, અને સર્વત્ર વસનારા તરીકે વર્ણવે છે.

This shloka is the opening verse of Rudrashtakam, a powerful hymn dedicated to Lord Shiva. It beautifully describes the transcendental and immanent aspects of Shiva. The significance lies in glorifying Shiva as the ultimate reality, Brahman, who is beyond all material qualities (nirguṇa) and desires (nirīha). He is portrayed as the source of liberation (nirvāṇarūpam) and the pure, all-pervading consciousness (cidākāśa, ākāśavāsam). This verse invites devotees to contemplate Shiva not just as a deity, but as the supreme, formless truth that permeates existence, leading to spiritual enlightenment and freedom.

I bow to Ishvara, the Lord, whose form is ultimate liberation, who is omnipresent and all-pervading, and who is the embodiment of Brahman and the Vedas. I worship Him who is the true Self, beyond all attributes, without any differentiation, desireless, the sky of pure consciousness, and the one who dwells in space (all-pervading).

This verse is an invocation to Lord Shiva, describing Him as the supreme being whose essence is liberation, who is all-pervading, the embodiment of divine knowledge, transcendent of all material attributes, free from desires, pure consciousness, and dwelling everywhere.

Meaning

હું ઈશ્વરને નમન કરું છું, જે ઈશાન દિશાના સ્વામી, નિર્વાણ સ્વરૂપવાળા, સર્વવ્યાપક, અને બ્રહ્મ તથા વેદના સ્વરૂપવાળા છે.

I bow to the Lord, who is the ruler (Ishana), whose form is liberation, who is omnipresent, all-pervading, and who is the very essence of Brahman and the Vedas.

Meaning

હું તે દેવને ભજું છું જે નિજ સ્વરૂપ, ગુણોથી પર, ભેદ રહિત, ઈચ્છા રહિત, ચૈતન્યરૂપી આકાશ અને આકાશમાં નિવાસ કરનારા છે.

I worship Him who is the true Self, without attributes, without differentiation, without desire, who is the sky of pure consciousness, and who dwells in all space.
