సన్న్యాసస్య మహాబాహో తత్త్వమిచ్ఛామి వేదితుమ్ ।
త్యాగస్య చ హృషీకేశ పృథక్కేశినిషూదన ॥

అర్జునుడు కృష్ణుడితో ఇలా అంటున్నాడు: ఓ బలవంతుడవైన కృష్ణా, సన్యాసం అంటే ఏమిటి, త్యాగం అంటే ఏమిటి అనే విషయాలను విడివిడిగా తెలుసుకోవాలని అనుకుంటున్నాను. సన్యాసం, త్యాగం అనే రెండు పదాలకు ఒకే అర్థం ఉందా, లేక వాటి మధ్య ఏదైనా తేడా ఉందా అని తెలుసుకోవాలనే కుతూహలంతో ఉన్నాను. హృషీకేశా అంటే ఇంద్రియాలకు అధిపతి అయినవాడు, కేశినిషూదన అంటే కేశి అనే రాక్షసుడిని చంపినవాడు. ఇక్కడ అర్జునుడు కృష్ణుడిని ఈ రెండు పేర్లతో సంబోధించడం ద్వారా, తన సందేహాలను నివృత్తి చేయమని ప్రార్థిస్తున్నాడు.
This verse highlights Arjuna’s quest to understand the true meaning of renunciation and relinquishment, a central theme in the Bhagavad Gita.
Arjuna said: O mighty-armed Krishna, I wish to know the truth of renunciation (Sannyasa) and also of relinquishment (Tyaga), O master of the senses, O slayer of Kesi.
Arjuna asks Krishna to explain the essence of renunciation and relinquishment.
Arjuna addresses Krishna, expressing his desire to understand the true nature of both Sannyasa (renunciation) and Tyaga (relinquishment). He wants to understand if they are the same or different. He calls Krishna ‘Mahabaho’ (mighty-armed), emphasizing his strength and ability to impart profound knowledge. He also uses ‘Hrishikesha’ (master of the senses), highlighting Krishna’s control over the senses, and ‘Keshinisudana’ (slayer of Kesi), referring to Krishna’s victory over the Kesi demon. By using these names, Arjuna acknowledges Krishna’s power, wisdom, and divine nature, and requests clarification on the concepts of renunciation and relinquishment.
