गुणप्रवृद्धा विषयप्रवालाः ।

अधश्च मूलान्यनुसन्ततानि

कर्मानुबन्धीनि मनुष्यलोके ॥

అధశ్చోర్ధ్వం ప్రసృతాస్తస్య శాఖా గుణప్రవృద్ధా విషయప్రవాళాః ।

అధశ్చ మూలాన్యనుసన్తతాని కర్మానుబన్ధీని మనుష్యలోకే ॥

In this verse, Lord Krishna describes the tree of samsara (material existence). It has branches that extend both upwards and downwards. The upward branches represent the higher realms of existence, while the downward branches represent the lower realms and the human world. These branches are nourished by the three modes of material nature: sattva (goodness), rajas (passion), and tamas (ignorance). The twigs represent the objects of the senses, which fuel desires and attachments. The roots extending downward are bound to the actions performed in the human world, signifying that our karma binds us to repeated cycles of birth and death.

అవి గుణములచే పెంచబడినవి మరియు విషయములనే చిగుళ్ళు కలవి.

They are nourished by the modes of nature, with sense objects as their buds.
