The Shloka

आरुरुक्षोर्मुनेर्योगं कर्म कारणमुच्यते ।

योगारूढस्य तस्यैव शमः कारणमुच्यते ॥

ஆரூருக்ஷோர்முனேர்யோகம் கர்ம காரணமுச்யதே ।

யோகாரூடஸ்ய தஸ்யைவ ஷம: காரணமுச்யதே ॥

yogārūḍhasya tasyaiva śamaḥ kāraṇam ucyate ॥

Meaning / Summary

இந்த ஸ்லோகம், யோகப் பாதையில் முன்னேறும்போது செயலுக்கும் அமைதிக்கும் உள்ள முக்கியத்துவத்தை விளக்குகிறது. ஆரம்பத்தில் செயல் அவசியம், ஆனால் இறுதியில் அமைதியே முக்திக்கு வழிவகுக்கும் என்பதை உணர்த்துகிறது.

யோகத்தில் ஏற விரும்பும் முனிக்கு, கர்மம் ஒரு காரணமாக சொல்லப்படுகிறது. யோகத்தில் ஏறியவனுக்கு, மன அமைதியே காரணமாக சொல்லப்படுகிறது.

யோகத்தை அடைய விரும்புகிறவருக்கு செயல் முக்கியம். யோகத்தில் நிலைத்தவருக்கு அமைதி முக்கியம்.

ஒரு முனிவர் யோகத்தின் உயர்ந்த நிலையை அடைய விரும்பினால், கர்மம் (செயல்) ஒரு வழியாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது. ஆனால், யோகத்தில் நிலைபெற்ற பிறகு, அவருக்கு மன அமைதியே (சமம்) மோட்சத்திற்கான காரணமாகிறது. அதாவது, ஆரம்பத்தில் செயல்கள் அவசியம், ஆனால் இறுதியில் அமைதியே முக்கியம்.

This shloka highlights the importance of both action and serenity in the path of Yoga. It suggests that action is crucial in the beginning, but ultimately, serenity leads to liberation.

For a sage who wishes to ascend to Yoga, action is said to be the means. For the one who has attained Yoga, serenity is said to be the means.

Action is important for one who wishes to attain Yoga. Serenity is important for one who has attained Yoga.

For a sage who is aspiring to climb the path of Yoga, action (karma) is said to be the means. However, for the one who has already attained Yoga, serenity (shama) becomes the means to liberation. This implies that initially, actions are necessary, but ultimately, stillness and peace are paramount.

मुनेः		முனே:		muneḥ
முனிவருக்கு ஒரு துறவிக்கு, ஞானிக்கு			For a sage For a wise person, a recluse, one who practices contemplation.
