श्रीभगवानुवाच ।

कुतस्त्वा कश्मलमिदं विषमे समुपस्थितम् ।

अनार्यजुष्टमस्वर्ग्यमकीर्तिकरमर्जुन ॥

Meaning / Summary¶

हा श्लोक भगवतगीतेतील एक महत्त्वाचा भाग आहे, जो अर्जुनाच्या मानसिक स्थितीवर प्रकाश टाकतो आणि त्याला योग्य मार्ग निवडण्यास प्रवृत्त करतो.

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण म्हणाले: हे अर्जुना, या युद्धाच्या कठीण प्रसंगी तुझ्या मनात ही निराशा कुठून आली? हे आचरण श्रेष्ठ लोकांच्या योग्य नाही, स्वर्गप्राप्ती करून देणारे नाही आणि कीर्तीलाही मारक आहे.

या श्लोकात भगवान श्रीकृष्ण अर्जुनाला त्याच्या विषण्णतेबद्दल प्रश्न विचारतात आणि हे आचरण श्रेष्ठ पुरुषांना शोभणारे नसल्याचे सांगतात.

या श्लोकात भगवान श्रीकृष्ण अर्जुनाला त्याच्या विषण्णतेचे कारण विचारत आहेत. अर्जुनाच्या मनात युद्धाच्या सुरुवातीला आलेली निराशा पाहून कृष्णाला आश्चर्य वाटते. ते म्हणतात की, अशा कठीण परिस्थितीत ही दुर्बलता तुझ्या मनात कशी आली? हे आचरण आर्य लोकांच्या म्हणजे श्रेष्ठ लोकांच्या योग्य नाही. हे स्वर्गात घेऊन जाणारे नाही, कारण युद्ध टाळल्यास तुला स्वर्ग मिळणार नाही. तसेच, यामुळे तुझी कीर्तीही कमी होईल, कारण लोक तुला दुर्बळ समजतील.

This verse is an important part of the Bhagavad Gita, which sheds light on Arjuna’s mental state and encourages him to choose the right path.

The Supreme Lord said: My dear Arjuna, how has this delusion overcome you at this hour of distress? It is certainly not befitting a man of noble character. It leads neither to heaven nor to glory.

In this verse, Lord Krishna questions Arjuna about his despondency and states that this behavior is not befitting of noble men.

In this verse, Lord Krishna questions Arjuna about the despair that has overtaken him. Krishna expresses surprise at Arjuna’s despondency at the beginning of the war. He says, ‘How has this weakness come into your mind in such a difficult situation?’ This behavior is not befitting of noble people. It does not lead to heaven because avoiding war will not get you to heaven. Also, it will diminish your glory because people will consider you weak.

हे अर्जुना, या कठीण प्रसंगी तुझ्या मनात ही निराशा कुठून आली?

My dear Arjuna, how has this delusion overcome you at this hour of distress?

कुत:		kutas
कुत: कुठून?		from where? From what cause or source?
त्वा		tvā
त्वा तुला.		to you To you, Arjuna.
कश्मलम्		kaśmalam
कश्मलम् मोह, भ्रम, अज्ञान किंवा निराशा.		delusion Bewilderment, illusion, dirtiness, impurity.
इदम्		idam
इदम्		this This particular feeling or condition.
विषमे		viṣame
विषमे कठीण प्रसंगी, अडचणीच्या वेळी.		in this hour of crisis In this difficult or critical situation; at the time of distress.
समुपस्थितम्		samupasthitam
समुपस्थितम् आले, प्राप्त झाले.		overcome Has arisen, has come upon you.

Meaning¶

हे आचरण श्रेष्ठ लोकांच्या योग्य नाही, स्वर्गप्राप्ती करून देणारे नाही आणि कीर्तीलाही मारक आहे, हे अर्जुना.

It is certainly not befitting a man of noble character. It leads neither to heaven nor to glory, O Arjuna.

Meaning of Words¶

अनार्यजुष्टम्		anāryajuṣṭam
अनार्यजुष्टम् जे आर्य (श्रेष्ठ) लोकांच्या योग्य नाही, अनार्य म्हणजे जे श्रेष्ठ नाहीत किंवा जे हीन आहेत.		not befitting a man of noble character Unworthy of civilized persons; not practiced by those who are advanced in the values of life.
अस्वर्ग्यम्		asvargyam
अस्वर्ग्यम् स्वर्गाकडे न नेणारे, स्वर्गप्राप्ती न करून देणारे.		which does not lead to higher planets That which does not lead to heaven, that which is not conducive to elevation to the heavenly planets.
अकीर्तिकरम्		akīrtikaram
अकीर्तिकरम् कीर्तीला मारक, अपकीर्ती निर्माण करणारे.		infamy That which causes disgrace or dishonor; that which destroys fame.
अर्जुन		arjuna
हे अर्जुना.		O Arjuna Arjuna, the son of Kunti.
