संन्यासस्य महाबाहो तत्त्वमिच्छामि वेदितुम् ।

त्यागस्य च हृषीकेश पृथक्केशिनिषूदन ॥

സന്ന്യാസസ്യ മഹാബാഹോ തത്ത്വമിച്ഛാമി വേദിതും ।

ത്യാഗസ്യ ച ഹൃഷീകേശ പൃഥക്കേശിനിഷൂദന ॥

saṁnyāsasya mahā-bāho tattvam icchāmi veditum।

tyāgasya ca hṛṣīkeśa pṛthak keśi-niṣūdana ॥

Meaning / Summary

സന്ന്യാസവും ത്യാഗവും തമ്മിലുള്ള വ്യത്യാസം മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ ഈ ശ്ലോകം സഹായിക്കുന്നു, ഇത് ആത്മീയ പാതയിൽ മുന്നേറാൻ അത്യാവശ്യമാണ്.

അർജ്ജുനൻ ചോദിച്ചു: അല്ലയോ മഹാബാഹുവായ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ, ത്യാഗത്തെയും സന്ന്യാസത്തെയും കുറിച്ചുള്ള തത്ത്വം എന്താണെന്ന് എനിക്ക് അറിയാൻ ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ട്. ഹേ ഹൃഷികേശ, കേശിനിഷൂദന, ഇവ രണ്ടിനെയും വേർതിരിച്ച് എനിക്ക് പറഞ്ഞുതന്നാലും.

ഈ ശ്ലോകത്തിൽ അർജ്ജുനൻ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനോട് സന്ന്യാസത്തെയും ത്യാഗത്തെയും കുറിച്ചുള്ള തത്ത്വം വിശദീകരിക്കാൻ അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

അർജ്ജുനൻ ഭഗവാനോട് ചോദിക്കുന്നു: അല്ലയോ മഹാബാഹുവായ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ, സന്ന്യാസം, ത്യാഗം എന്നിവയുടെ തത്ത്വങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് എനിക്ക് അറിയാൻ ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ട്. ഹേ ഇന്ദ്രിയങ്ങളെ നിയന്ത്രിക്കുന്നവനേ, കേശി എന്ന അസുരനെ കൊന്നവനേ, സന്ന്യാസത്തെയും ത്യാഗത്തെയും കുറിച്ച് വ്യക്തമായി പറഞ്ഞുതരുമോ?
