अर्जुन उवाच।

ये शास्त्रविधिमुत्सृज्य यजन्ते श्रद्धयान्विताः ।

तेषां निष्ठा तु का कृष्ण सत्त्वमाहो रजस्तमः ॥

അർജ്ജുന ഉവാച: യേ ശാസ്ത്രവിധിമുത്സൃജ്യ യജന്തേ ശ്രദ്ധയാന്വിതാഃ തേസാം നിഷ്ഠാ തു കാ കൃഷ്ണ സത്ത്വമാഹോ രജസ്തമഃ

Meaning / Summary

ഈ ശ്ലോകം, ശാസ്ത്രവിധികൾ പാലിക്കാതെ ശ്രദ്ധയോടെ കർമ്മം ചെയ്യുന്നവരുടെ മനോഭാവത്തെയും, അവരുടെ കർമ്മങ്ങളുടെ സ്വഭാവത്തെയും കുറിച്ച് അറിയാനുള്ള അർജ്ജുനൻ്റെ ആഗ്രഹത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

അർജ്ജുനൻ ചോദിച്ചു: ശാസ്ത്രവിധികൾ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ശ്രദ്ധയോടുകൂടി യാഗം ചെയ്യുന്നവരുടെ നിഷ്ഠ എന്തായിരിക്കും? കൃഷ്ണാ, അത് സത്വഗുണമാണോ, രജോഗുണമാണോ, അതോ തമോഗുണമാണോ?

അർജ്ജുനൻ ചോദിക്കുന്നു: ശാസ്ത്രവിധികൾ പാലിക്കാതെ, ശ്രദ്ധയോടെ യാഗം ചെയ്യുന്നവരുടെ നിഷ്ഠയെക്കുറിച്ച് കൃഷ്ണനോട് ചോദിക്കുന്നു. അത് സത്വഗുണമാണോ, രജോഗുണമാണോ, അതോ തമോഗുണമാണോ എന്ന് അർജ്ജുനൻ സംശയിക്കുന്നു.

അർജ്ജുനൻ ഭഗവാനോട് ചോദിക്കുന്നു: വേദങ്ങളിലും, സ്മൃതികളിലും പറയുന്ന നിയമങ്ങളെയും, ചട്ടങ്ങളെയും അനുസരിക്കാതെ, സ്വന്തം ഇഷ്ടപ്രകാരം, പക്ഷേ ശ്രദ്ധയോടുകൂടി യാഗങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യുന്നവരുടെ സ്ഥിതി എന്തായിരിക്കും? അവർ ചെയ്യുന്ന കർമ്മങ്ങളുടെ പിന്നിലുള്ള ചേതന സത്വഗുണമാണോ (ശുദ്ധവും, പ്രകാശമുള്ളതും), രജോഗുണമാണോ (ആസക്തിയും, അഭിലാഷവും നിറഞ്ഞത്), അതോ തമോഗുണമാണോ (അജ്ഞതയും, ആലസ്യവും നിറഞ്ഞത്)? ഏതൊരു ഗുണമാണ് അവരെ നയിക്കുന്നത്?

This verse highlights Arjuna’s curiosity about the nature and motivation behind actions performed with faith but deviating from scriptural guidelines.

Arjuna inquired: What is the status of those who, abandoning the injunctions of the scriptures, perform sacrifices with faith? O Krishna, is it goodness, passion, or ignorance?

Arjuna inquires about the faith of those who perform sacrifices with devotion, but without following scriptural injunctions, questioning whether their actions are in goodness, passion, or ignorance.

Arjuna asks the Lord: What is the position of those who, disregarding the rules and regulations prescribed in the scriptures (Vedas and Smritis), perform sacrifices according to their own whims, but with faith? What is the nature of their devotion? Is the motivation behind their actions based on Sattva guna (goodness, purity, and illumination), Rajas guna (passion, desire, and activity), or Tamas guna (ignorance, inertia, and darkness)? Which of these qualities guides them?
