अधश्चोर्ध्वं प्रसृतास्तस्य शाखा

गुणप्रवृद्धा विषयप्रवालाः ।

अधश्च मूलान्यनुसन्ततानि

कर्मानुबन्धीनि मनुष्यलोके ॥

അധശ്ചോർധ്വം പ്രസൃതാസ്തസ്യ ശാഖാ

ഗുണപ്രവൃദ്ധാ വിഷയപ്രവാളാഃ ।

അധശ്ച മൂലാന്യനുസന്തതാനി

കർമ്മാനുബന്ധീനി മനുഷ്യലോകേ ॥

Meaning / Summary¶

ഈ ശ്ലോകം സംസാരത്തിന്റെ സ്വഭാവത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും കർമ്മബന്ധങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും നമ്മെ ഓർമ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. വിഷയങ്ങളോടുള്ള ആസക്തിയും ത്രിഗുണങ്ങളുടെ സ്വാധീനവും നമ്മെ ഈ ലോകത്തിൽ ബന്ധിക്കുന്നു. മോക്ഷം നേടാൻ ഈ ബന്ധനങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് ബോധമുണ്ടായിരിക്കേണ്ടത് അത്യാവശ്യമാണ്.

ആ വൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെ ശാഖകൾ മുകളിലേക്കും താഴേക്കും വ്യാപിച്ചു കിടക്കുന്നു, അവ ഗുണങ്ങളാൽ വളർന്ന് വിഷയങ്ങളാകുന്ന ഇലകളോടുകൂടിയവയാണ്. മനുഷ്യലോകത്തിൽ കർമ്മബന്ധങ്ങളാൽ തുടർച്ചയായി ബന്ധിക്കപ്പെട്ട വേരുകൾ താഴേക്കും വ്യാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

സംസാരവൃക്ഷത്തിൻ്റെ ശാഖകൾ മുകളിലേക്കും താഴേക്കും വ്യാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ത്രിഗുണങ്ങളാൽ പോഷിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ശാഖകൾ വിഷയങ്ങളോടുള്ള ആസക്തിയാകുന്ന ഇലകളോടുകൂടിയവയാണ്. കർമ്മബന്ധങ്ങളാൽ ബന്ധിക്കപ്പെട്ട വേരുകൾ മനുഷ്യലോകത്തിൽ താഴേക്കും വ്യാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

This verse reminds us about the nature of Samsara and the bondage of karma. Attachment to sense objects and the influence of the three Gunas bind us to this world. Awareness of these bondages is essential for attaining liberation.
