आरुरुक्षोर्मुनेर्योगं कर्म कारणमुच्यते ।

योगारूढस्य तस्यैव शमः कारणमुच्यते ॥

ആരുരുക്ഷോർമുനേര്യോഗം കർമ്മ കാരണംമുച്യതേ

യോഗാരൂഢസ്യ തസ്യൈവ ശമഃ കാരണംമുച്യതേ ॥

Meaning / Summary

ഈ ശ്ലോകം യോഗയുടെ രണ്ട് അവസ്ഥകളെക്കുറിച്ചും അവയുടെ പ്രാധാന്യത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും പറയുന്നു. തുടക്കക്കാർക്ക് കർമ്മം പ്രധാനമാണ്, എന്നാൽ ഉയർന്ന തലത്തിൽ എത്തിയവർക്ക് ശാന്തിയാണ് പ്രധാനം.

യോഗത്തിലേക്ക് ഉയരാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്ന മുനിക്ക് കർമ്മം ഒരു കാരണമാകുന്നു. യോഗത്തിൽ സ്ഥിരമായ വ്യക്തിക്ക് ശാന്തി തന്നെയാണ് കാരണം.

യോഗത്തിലേക്ക് ഉയരാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്ന ഒരാൾക്ക് കർമ്മം ഒരു ഉപാധിയാണ്, എന്നാൽ യോഗത്തിൽ സ്ഥിരമായിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരാൾക്ക് ശാന്തിയാണ് ഉപാധി.

ഒരു യോഗി യോഗാഭ്യാസം ആരംഭിക്കുമ്പോൾ, കർമ്മം (പ്രവൃത്തി) ഒരു പ്രധാന കാരണമാണ്. കാരണം, കർമ്മത്തിലൂടെയാണ് അവൻ മനസ്സിനെയും ഇന്ദ്രിയങ്ങളെയും നിയന്ത്രിക്കുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ, യോഗത്തിൽ സ്ഥിരമായി ഉയർന്ന നിലയിൽ എത്തിയ ഒരു യോഗിയെ സംബന്ധിച്ചിടത്തോളം, ശാന്തി അഥവാ മനഃശാന്തിയാണ് മുഖ്യമായ കാരണം. കാരണം, അവൻ കർമ്മഫലങ്ങളിൽ ആസക്തിയില്ലാത്തവനും ആത്മജ്ഞാനം നേടിയവനുമായിരിക്കും.

This verse highlights the different stages of yoga and the importance of action in the beginning and serenity in the advanced stages.

For a sage who seeks to ascend to yoga, action is said to be the means; for the same sage who is established in yoga, serenity is said to be the means.

For one aspiring to yoga, action is the means; for one who has attained yoga, serenity is the means.

When a yogi is beginning their practice of yoga, action (karma) is the means by which they rise. This is because through action, they purify their mind and control their senses. However, for that same yogi who has become established in yoga, serenity (shama) becomes the means. This is because they are no longer attached to the fruits of action and have attained self-realization.

മുനിക്ക് ഒരു സന്യാസിക്ക്, ചിന്തകന്, ആത്മീയ ജ്ഞാനം നേടാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്ന ആൾക്ക്			For the sage; A wise person, a contemplative individual, or a spiritual seeker.
योगं		യോഗം		yogaṁ

യോഗത്തിൽ സ്ഥിരമായ വ്യക്തിക്ക് ശാന്തി തന്നെയാണ് കാരണം എന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.

For the same sage who is established in yoga, serenity is said to be the means.

योगारूढस्य		യോഗാരൂഢസ്യ		yogārūḍhasya
യോഗത്തിൽ സ്ഥിരമായ യോഗയിൽ ഉയർന്ന നിലയിൽ എത്തിയ, യോഗം സിദ്ധിച്ച			Of one who has attained yoga; Of one who is established or firmly situated in yoga.
