स एवायं मया तेऽद्य योगः प्रोक्तः पुरातनः ।

भक्तोऽसि मे सखा चेति रहस्यं ह्येतदुत्तमम् ॥

Meaning / Summary

ഈ ശ്ലോകത്തിൽ, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ അർജ്ജുനനോട് താൻ മുൻപ് സൂര്യദേവന് ഉപദേശിച്ച അതേ പുരാതനമായ യോഗത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പറയുന്നു, അത് കാലക്രമേണ നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടുപോയിരുന്നു. അർജ്ജുനൻ ഭക്തനും സുഹൃത്തുമായതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ആ രഹസ്യം വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്.

അതേ പുരാതനമായ യോഗം തന്നെയാണ് ഞാൻ ഇന്ന് നിന്നോട് പറയുന്നത്.

പഴയ യോഗത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് കൃഷ്ണൻ അർജ്ജുനനോട് പറയുന്നു.

അർജ്ജുനാ, മുൻപ് ഞാൻ സൂര്യദേവന് ഉപദേശിച്ച അതേ പുരാതനമായ യോഗം തന്നെയാണ് ഇന്ന് ഞാൻ നിന്നോട് പറയുന്നത്. കാലാന്തരത്തിൽ അത് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടുപോയിരുന്നു. നിനക്കത് ഉപദേശിക്കാനുള്ള കാരണം, നീ എന്റെ ഭക്തനും സുഹൃത്തുമാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഈ ഉത്തമമായ രഹസ്യം നിനക്ക് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.

In this verse, Krishna tells Arjuna about the same ancient Yoga that he previously instructed to the Sun god, which had been lost over time. The reason for revealing this secret is that Arjuna is a devotee and friend.

That same ancient Yoga has been taught to you by Me today.

Krishna speaks to Arjuna about the ancient Yoga.

Arjuna, that same ancient Yoga which I had instructed to the Sun god, I am imparting to you today. It had been lost in the course of time. The reason I am telling you this is because you are my devotee and friend. Therefore, I am revealing this supreme secret to you.

Meaning

അത് (ആ) തന്നെയാണു ഞാൻ ഇന്ന് നിന്നോട് പറയുന്നത്, ആ യോഗം, പണ്ടത്തെ.

That same Yoga, ancient, is being spoken by me to you today.

Meaning of Words

स एव		സ ഏവ		sa eva
അത് തന്നെ അതേ, ആ യോഗം തന്നെ.			That very The same as before, that very yoga.
अयम्		അയം		ayam
ഇത് ഇപ്പോഴുള്ളത്, ഈ യോഗം			This The present, current yoga being discussed.
मया		മയാ		mayā
എന്റെ(ഞാൻ) എൻ്റെ കയ്യിൽ നിന്നും			By Me From me, spoken by me.
ते		തേ		te
നിനക്ക് നിനക്കുവേണ്ടി			To you For your benefit, to you.
अद्य		അദ്യ		adya
ഇന്ന് ഈ ദിവസം			Today On this day, at this time.
योगः		യോഗഃ		yogaḥ
യോഗം ആത്മീയമായ അഭ്യാസം			Yoga Spiritual practice, union with the divine.
प्रोक्तः		പ്രോക്തഃ		proktaḥ
പറയപ്പെടുന്നു പറയുക, ഉപദേശിക്കുക			Spoken Told, instructed, imparted.
पुरातनः		പുരാതനഃ		purātanaḥ
പുരാതനമായ പഴയത്, പണ്ടത്തെ			Ancient Old, from a long time ago.

നീ എന്റെ ഭക്തനും സുഹൃത്തുമാണ് അതിനാൽ ഈ രഹസ്യം ഉത്തമമാണ്.

Because you are My devotee and friend, this secret is supreme.
