संन्यासस्य महाबाहो तत्त्वमिच्छामि वेदितुम् ।

त्यागस्य च हृषीकेश पृथक्केशिनिषूदन ॥

ಅರ್ಜುನ ಉವಾಚ ।

ಸಂನ್ಯಾಸಸ್ಯ ಮಹಾಬಾಹೋ ತತ್ತ್ವಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಿ ವೇದಿತುಮ್ ।

ತ್ಯಾಗಸ್ಯ ಚ ಹೃಷಿಕೇಶ ಪೃಥಕ್ಕೇಶಿನಿಸೂದನ ॥

Meaning / Summary

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಸನ್ಯಾಸ ಮತ್ತು ತ್ಯಾಗಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯು ಈ ಎರಡು ಪರಿಕಲ್ಪನೆಗಳ ಆಳವಾದ ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ದಾರಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ: ಎಲೈ ಮಹಾಬಾಹುವಾದ ಕೃಷ್ಣ, ನಾನು ತ್ಯಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಸನ್ಯಾಸಗಳ ತತ್ತ್ವವನ್ನು ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆಯಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಯಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ, ಎಲೈ ಹೃಷಿಕೇಶ, ಕೇಶಿನೀಸೂದನ.

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಸನ್ಯಾಸ ಮತ್ತು ತ್ಯಾಗದ ನಡುವಿನ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಯುವ ಬಯಕೆಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಕೃಷ್ಣನನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ: ಎಲೈ ಬಲಶಾಲಿಯಾದ ಕೃಷ್ಣ, ನಾನು ಸನ್ಯಾಸ (ಕರ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ತ್ಯಜಿಸುವುದು) ಮತ್ತು ತ್ಯಾಗ (ಕರ್ಮಫಲವನ್ನು ತ್ಯಜಿಸುವುದು) ಇವುಗಳ ನಿಜವಾದ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ನನಗೆ ಇವೆರಡರ ನಡುವಿನ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿ, ಎಲೈ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಯಂತ್ರಿಸುವವನೇ ಮತ್ತು ಕೇಶಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಂದವನೇ.

This shloka highlights the importance of understanding the distinction between renunciation and relinquishment. Arjuna’s question sets the stage for a deeper exploration of these two concepts.

Arjuna said: O mighty-armed Krishna, I wish to learn the truth of renunciation (sannyasa) and of relinquishment (tyaga), O master of the senses, slayer of Kesi.

Arjuna expresses his desire to understand the difference between renunciation (sannyasa) and relinquishment (tyaga) to Krishna.
