अर्जुन उवाच।

ये शास्त्रविधिमुत्सृज्य यजन्ते श्रद्धयान्विताः ।

तेषां निष्ठा तु का कृष्ण सत्त्वमाहो रजस्तमः ॥

ಅರ್ಜುನ ಉವಾಚ ।

ಯೇ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ವಿಧಿ ಮುತ್ಸೃಜ್ಯ ಯಜಂತೇ ಶ್ರದ್ಧಯಾನ್ವಿತಾಃ ।

ತೇಷಾಂ ನಿಷ್ಠಾ ತು ಕಾ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಸತ್ತ್ವಮಾಹೋ ರಜಸ್ತಮಃ ॥

Meaning / Summary¶

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯ ಸ್ವರೂಪ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಮೂಲದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳ ಪರಿಣಾಮಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅವನು ಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಂದ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟನೆ ಬಯಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ: ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳ ವಿಧಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಯಜ್ಞ ಮಾಡುವವರ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯು ಹೇಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ, ಕೃಷ್ಣ? ಅದು ಸತ್ವ, ರಜಸ್ಸು ಅಥವಾ ತಮಸ್ಸು?

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಕೃಷ್ಣನನ್ನು ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ: ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳ ಆಜ್ಞೆಗಳನ್ನು ಧಿಕ್ಕರಿಸಿ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಯಜ್ಞ ಮಾಡುವವರ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಏನು? ಅದು ಸತ್ವ, ರಜಸ್ಸು ಅಥವಾ ತಮಸ್ಸು?

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ: ಎಲೈ ಕೃಷ್ಣ, ಯಾರು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿರುವ ನಿಯಮಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸದೆ, ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಯಜ್ಞಗಳನ್ನು ಅಥವಾ ಆರಾಧನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೋ, ಅವರ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯು ಯಾವ ಗುಣಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರುತ್ತದೆ? ಅದು ಸತ್ವಗುಣವೇ, ರಜೋಗುಣವೇ, ಅಥವಾ ತಮೋಗುಣವೇ?

This verse expresses Arjuna’s question about the nature of faith and its origin. He seeks clarification from Krishna about the consequences of actions performed without the guidance of scriptures.

Arjuna said: What is the situation of those who perform sacrifices with faith, abandoning the injunctions of the scriptures, O Krishna? Is it Sattva, Rajas, or Tamas?

Arjuna asks Krishna: What is the situation of those who, ignoring the injunctions of the scriptures, perform sacrifices with faith? Is it Sattva, Rajas, or Tamas?

Arjuna asks Lord Krishna: O Krishna, what is the nature of the faith of those who, disregarding the rules and regulations laid down in the scriptures, perform sacrifices or worship with their own belief and devotion? Is it born of Sattva (goodness), Rajas (passion), or Tamas (ignorance)?
