अधश्चोर्ध्वं प्रसृतास्तस्य शाखा

गुणप्रवृद्धा विषयप्रवालाः ।

अधश्च मूलान्यनुसन्ततानि

कर्मानुबन्धीनि मनुष्यलोके ॥

ಅಧಶ್ಚೋರ್ಧ್ವಂ ಪ್ರಸೃತಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ಶಾಖಾ ಗುಣಪ್ರವೃದ್ಧಾ ವಿಷಯಪ್ರವಾಲಾಃ ।

ಅದಶ್ಚ ಮೂಲಾನ್ಯನುಸಂತತಾನಿ ಕರ್ಮಾನುಬನ್ಧೀನಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯಲೋಕೇ ॥

Meaning / Summary

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಸಂಸಾರದ ಸ್ವರೂಪವನ್ನು ಅರಿತು, ಅದರಿಂದ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಹೊಂದುವ ಮಾರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥ ವೃಕ್ಷದ ಕೊಂಬೆಗಳು ಮೇಲ್ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಳಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಹರಡಿಕೊಂಡಿವೆ. ಅವು ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಗುಣಗಳಿಂದ (ಸತ್ವ, ರಜಸ್ಸು, ತಮಸ್ಸು) ಬೆಳೆದಿವೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಷಯಗಳೇ ಚಿಗುರುಗಳಾಗಿವೆ. ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ಮಾನುಸಾರವಾಗಿ ಬಂಧಿಸುವ ಬೇರುಗಳು ಕೆಳಗೆ ಹಬ್ಬಿವೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ, ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಗುಣಗಳಿಂದ ಬೆಳೆದ ಸಂಸಾರವೆಂಬ ವೃಕ್ಷದ ಕೊಂಬೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕರ್ಮಾನುಸಾರವಾಗಿ ಬಂಧಿಸುವ ಬೇರುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಸಂಸಾರವೆಂಬ ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥ ವೃಕ್ಷದ ಸ್ವರೂಪವನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ವೃಕ್ಷವು ಮೇಲ್ಭಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಳಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಕೊಂಬೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹರಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಈ ಕೊಂಬೆಗಳು ಸತ್ವ, ರಜಸ್ಸು ಮತ್ತು ತಮಸ್ಸು ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಮೂರು ಗುಣಗಳಿಂದ ಪೋಷಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿವೆ. ವಿಷಯಾಸಕ್ತಿಯೇ ಇದರ ಚಿಗುರುಗಳು. ಕರ್ಮಾನುಸಾರವಾಗಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯರನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸುವ ಬೇರುಗಳು ಕೆಳಗೆ ಹಬ್ಬಿವೆ. ಬೇರೆ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುವುದಾದರೆ, ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಮಾಡುವ ಕರ್ಮಗಳ ಫಲವಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಈ ಸಂಸಾರ ಚಕ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಲುಕಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.

This verse encourages us to understand the nature of the material world and to find a way to become liberated from it.
