एवमेतद्यथात्थ त्वमात्मानं परमेश्वर ।

द्रष्टुमिच्छामि ते रूपमैश्वरं पुरुषोत्तम ॥

ಏವಮೇತದ್ಯಥಾತ್ಥ ತ್ವಮಾತ್ಮಾನಂ ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರ ।

ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಿ ತೇ ರೂಪಮೈಶ್ವರಂ ಪುರುಷೋತ್ತಮ ॥

Meaning / Summary¶

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಭಗವಂತನ ದರ್ಶನ ಪಡೆಯುವ ಭಕ್ತನ ಹಂಬಲವನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅರ್ಜುನನಿಗೆ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಮೇಲಿನ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವನ ದೈವಿಕ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ನೋಡುವ ಬಯಕೆ ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ಇದು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಹೇ ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರ, ಪುರುಷೋತ್ತಮ, ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಏನು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೀಯೋ ಅದೆಲ್ಲ ಸತ್ಯ. ಆದರೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಯುತ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ನಾನು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಅವನ ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಯುತ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಲು ಕೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವನು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಸತ್ಯವೆಂದು ನಂಬುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ, “ಓ ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರ, ಪುರುಷೋತ್ತಮ, ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ದಿವ್ಯ ಸ್ವರೂಪದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಏನೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೀಯೋ ಅದೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಸತ್ಯ. ಆದರೂ, ನನ್ನ ಕುತೂಹಲ ತಣಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ನಿನ್ನ ಮಹಿಮೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ವತಃ ಅನುಭವಿಸಲು, ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ನಿನ್ನ ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಯುತ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ತೋರಿಸು.” ಅರ್ಜುನನಿಗೆ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಮಾತುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಇದ್ದರೂ, ಆ ದೈವಿಕ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ಕಣ್ಣಾರೆ ಕಾಣುವ ಬಯಕೆ ಇತ್ತು.

This shloka shows the devotee’s longing to see the divine. It expresses both Arjuna’s belief in Krishna and his desire to see his divine form.

O Supreme Lord, O Purushottama, I believe everything that you have told me is true. Still, I wish to see your divine form.

Arjuna requests Krishna to show him his divine form, as he believes everything Krishna has said is true.

In this shloka, Arjuna says to Krishna, “O Supreme Lord, O Purushottama, whatever you have told me about your divine nature is true. Still, to satisfy my curiosity and to experience your glory directly, please show me your majestic form.” Even though Arjuna believes Krishna’s words, he has a desire to see that divine form with his own eyes.

Meaning¶

ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಏನು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೀಯೋ ಅದೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಸತ್ಯ.

Whatever you have said about yourself is true.

Meaning of Words¶

एवम्	ಏವಂ		evam
ಹೀಗೆ, ಇದು ಖಂಡಿತವಾಗಿಯೂ, ಇದು ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಆಗಿದೆ.		Thus, this Indeed, so it is.
एतत्	ಏತತ್		etat
ಇದು, ಈ ವಿಷಯ		This, this matter.
यथात्थ	ಯಥಾತ್ಥ		yathāttha
ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆ ಹೇಳಿದ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಹೇಳಿದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ.		As said In the manner said, according to what was said.
त्वम्	ತ್ವಮ್		tvam
ನೀನು, ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ.		You, Arjuna is saying to Krishna.

आत्मानं	ಆತ್ಮಾನಂ		ātmānaṁ
ನಿನ್ನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವರೂಪವನ್ನು.		About yourself Yourself, your own nature.
परमेश्वर	ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರ		parameśvara
ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರ ಓ ಸರ್ವೋಚ್ಚ ದೇವರು, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದೇವತೆಗಳಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ.		O Supreme Lord, the greatest of all gods.

ನಿನ್ನ ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಯುತ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ನೋಡಲು ಕಾಣಲು, ದರ್ಶನ ಪಡೆಯಲು.		To see To behold, to have a vision of.
इच्छामि	ಇಚ್ಛಾಮಿ		icchāmi
ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಇಚ್ಛಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ, ಆಸೆಪಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.		I wish I desire, I long for.
ते	ತೇ		te
ನಿನ್ನ ನಿಮ್ಮ, ನಿನಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ.		Yours, belonging to you.
रूपम्	ರೂಪಮ್		rūpam
ಆಕಾರವನ್ನು, ಸ್ವರೂಪವನ್ನು.		Form Shape, appearance.
ऐश्वरम्	ಐಶ್ವರಮ್		aiśvaram
ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಯುತ ಮಹಾನ್, ವೈಭವಯುತ, ದೈವಿಕ.		Divine Majestic, glorious, divine.
