The Shloka

आरुरुक्षोर्मुनेर्योगं कर्म कारणमुच्यते ।

योगारूढस्य तस्यैव शमः कारणमुच्यते ॥

ಆರೂರುಕ್ಷೋರ್ಮುನೇರ್ಯೋಗಂ ಕರ್ಮ ಕಾರಣಮುಚ್ಯತೇ ।

ಯೋಗಾರೂಢಸ್ಯ ತಸ್ಯೈವ ಶಮಃ ಕಾರಣಮುಚ್ಯತೇ ॥

Meaning / Summary

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಯೋಗದ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಂತಿಯ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದರೆ, ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಂತಿಯು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸಲು ಬಯಸುವ ಮುನಿಗೆ ಕರ್ಮವು ಸಾಧನವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸಿದ ಆ ಮುನಿಗೆ ಶಾಂತಿಯು ಸಾಧನವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸಿದ ಮುನಿಯ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ಕರ್ಮವು ಸಾಧನವಾದರೆ, ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದ ನಂತರ ಶಾಂತಿಯು ಸಾಧನವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಯಾವ ಮುನಿಯು ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಏರಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಾನೋ, ಅಂತಹ ಮುನಿಗೆ ಕರ್ಮವು ಒಂದು ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಏರಿದ ಮೇಲೆ, ಅದೇ ಮುನಿಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಂದ ಶಾಂತಿಯು ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

This shloka highlights the importance of action and serenity in the path of Yoga. While action is essential at the beginning, serenity is essential at the end.

For a sage who wishes to attain Yoga, action is said to be the means; for the same sage who is established in Yoga, cessation of all activities is said to be the means.

This shloka speaks about the state of a sage aspiring to attain Yoga and the sage who has attained Yoga. Action is the means to achieve Yoga, while serenity is the means after attaining Yoga.

For a sage who is aspiring to ascend to Yoga, work (action) is said to be the means. Upon attaining that Yoga, serenity (cessation of all activities) becomes the means for the same sage.

ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಏರಲು ಬಯಸುವ ಮುನಿಗೆ, ಕರ್ಮವು ಕಾರಣವೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

आरुरुक्षोः		ಆರೂರುಕ್ಷೋಃ		ārurukṣoḥ
ಏರಲು ಬಯಸುವ ಏರಲು ಇಚ್ಛಿಸುವ, ಉನ್ನತಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಲು ಬಯಸುವ			Wishing to ascend Desiring to climb or ascend; aspiring to reach a higher state.
मुनेः		ಮುನೇಃ		muneḥ
ಮುನಿಗೆ ಮನನಶೀಲನಾದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ, ಋಷಿ			For a sage For a thoughtful, contemplative person; a wise man or a seer.
योगं		ಯೋಗಂ		yogaṁ
ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ದೈವಿಕ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ, ಆತ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಮಾತ್ಮರ ಮಿಲನ			Yoga Union with the divine; the practice of uniting the individual self with the supreme self.
कर्म		ಕರ್ಮ		karma
ಕರ್ಮ			Action Deed, work, activity; any action performed.
कारणम्		ಕಾರಣಂ		kāraṇam
ಕಾರಣ ಮಾರ್ಗ, ಸಾಧನ			Means Cause, instrument, or means to achieve something.
उच्यते		ಉಚ್ಯತೇ		ucyate
ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಹೇಳುವುದು, ತಿಳಿಸುವುದು			Is said Is spoken of, declared, or mentioned.

ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಏರಿದವನಿಗೆ ಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿತನಾದವನಿಗೆ, ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸಿದವನಿಗೆ			For one established in Yoga For the one who has ascended to Yoga; for the one who is firmly established in Yoga.
तस्यैव		ತಸ್ಯೈವ		tasyaiva

शमः		ಶಮಃ		śamaḥ
ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಶಾಂತಿ, ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಂದ ದೂರವಿರುವುದು			Serenity Tranquility, calmness, peace of mind; cessation of activities.
