संन्यासं कर्मणां कृष्ण पुनर्योगं च शंससि ।

यच्छ्रेय एतयोरेकं तन्मे ब्रूहि सुनिश्चितम् ॥

ಸಂನ್ಯಾಸಂ ಕರ್ಮಣಾಂ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಪುನರ್ಯೋಗಂ ಚ ಶಂಸಸಿ ।

ಯಚ್ಛ್ರೇಯ ಏತಯೋರೇಕಂ ತನ್ಮೇ ಬ್ರೂಹಿ ಸುನಿಶ್ಚಿತಮ್ ॥

Meaning / Summary¶

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಕರ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ತ್ಯಾಗದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಇರುವ ಗೊಂದಲವನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯು ಕರ್ಮಯೋಗದ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ: ಕೃಷ್ಣ, ನೀನು ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ಕರ್ಮಗಳ ತ್ಯಾಗವನ್ನು ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತೀಯ, ಮತ್ತೆ ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ಕರ್ಮಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತೀಯ. ಈ ಎರಡರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದು ನನಗೆ ಶ್ರೇಯಸ್ಕರ ಎಂದು ನಿಶ್ಚಯಿಸಿ ಹೇಳು.

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಕರ್ಮ ತ್ಯಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಕರ್ಮಯೋಗದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳಿಂದ ಗೊಂದಲಕ್ಕೊಳಗಾಗಿ, ತನಗೆ ಯಾವುದು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಶ್ರೇಯಸ್ಕರ ಎಂದು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಲು ಕೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಗೊಂದಲವನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನು ಒಂದೆಡೆ ಕರ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ತ್ಯಜಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಮೋಕ್ಷ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಮತ್ತೊಂದೆಡೆ ಕರ್ಮಯೋಗದ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಅರ್ಜುನನಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದು ಉತ್ತಮ ಮಾರ್ಗ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಲು ಕಷ್ಟವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಈ ಎರಡೂ ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸೂಕ್ತ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೇಯಸ್ಕರ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿ ಹೇಳಲು ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

This verse highlights the confusion surrounding the concepts of action and renunciation. Arjuna’s question sets the stage for understanding the importance of Karma Yoga.

Arjuna said: Krishna, sometimes you praise renunciation of actions, and sometimes you praise the path of action. Tell me definitively which one of these two is more beneficial.

Arjuna, confused by Krishna’s teachings on renunciation and action, asks him to definitively determine which is more beneficial for him.

Arjuna expresses his confusion to Krishna. Krishna sometimes praises the renunciation of actions, saying it leads to liberation, and at other times, he emphasizes the importance of Karma Yoga (the path of selfless action). This makes it difficult for Arjuna to determine which path is better for him. Therefore, Arjuna asks Krishna to decide and tell him which of the two paths is more suitable and beneficial for him.

ಈ ಎರಡರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದು ನನಗೆ ಶ್ರೇಯಸ್ಕರ ಎಂದು ನಿಶ್ಚಯಿಸಿ ಹೇಳು.

यच्छ्रेयः	ಯಚ್ಛ್ರೇಯಃ		yac chreyaḥ
ಯಾವುದು ಶ್ರೇಯಸ್ಕರ ಯಾವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು, ಯಾವುದು ಹಿತಕರ.		which is more beneficial which is better, which is more auspicious.
एतयोरेकं	ಏತಯೋರೇಕಂ		etayor ekaṁ
ಈ ಎರಡರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಈ ಎರಡು ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು.		one of these two paths.
तन्मे	ತನ್ಮೇ		tan me
ಅದನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ಹೇಳು.		that to me that, to me.
