कुतस्त्वा कश्मलमिदं विषमे समुपस्थितम् ।

अनार्यजुष्टमस्वर्ग्यमकीर्तिकरमर्जुन ॥

ಕುತಸ್ತ್ವಾ ಕಶ್ಮಲಮಿದಂ ವಿಷಮೇ ಸಮುಪಸ್ಥಿತಮ್ ।

ಅನಾರ್ಯಜುಷ್ಟಮಸ್ವರ್ಗ್ಯಮಕೀರ್ತಿಕರಮರ್ಜುನ ॥

Meaning / Summary¶

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವು ಕರ್ತವ್ಯದಿಂದ ವಿಮುಖರಾಗುವುದರ ಪರಿಣಾಮಗಳನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಧರ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ಕೀರ್ತಿಯ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಶ್ರೀ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ: ಅರ್ಜುನ, ಈ ಕಷ್ಟದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನಗೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಈ ಕಲ್ಮಶವುಂಟಾಯಿತು? ಇದು ಆರ್ಯರಲ್ಲದವರಿಗೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದುದು, ಸ್ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಒಯ್ಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಮತ್ತು ಕೀರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನಾಶಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಭಗವಂತನು ಅರ್ಜುನನಿಗೆ ಯುದ್ಧದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ದುಃಖಿತನಾಗಿರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಇದು ಆರ್ಯರಲ್ಲದವರಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ದಾರಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಮತ್ತು ಕೀರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನಾಶಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಭಗವಾನ್ ಶ್ರೀ ಕೃಷ್ಣನು ಅರ್ಜುನನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ, ‘ಅರ್ಜುನ, ಈ ಯುದ್ಧದ ಸಂದಿಗ್ಧ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ನಿನಗೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಇಂತಹ ದುಃಖ ಮತ್ತು ಮೋಹ ಉಂಟಾಯಿತು? ಇದು ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ತಕ್ಕುದಲ್ಲ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಇದು ಸ್ವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ತಲುಪಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಮತ್ತು ನಿನ್ನ ಗೌರವವನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ’. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಆರ್ಯ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವವರು. ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯನಾಗಿ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಅವನ ಧರ್ಮ, ಅದರಿಂದ ವಿಮುಖನಾಗುವುದು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಕೀರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ತರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

This shloka highlights the consequences of deviating from one’s duty and emphasizes the importance of dharma and reputation.

The Blessed Lord said: Arjuna, how has this delusion overcome you in this hour of crisis? It is uncharacteristic of noble persons, does not lead to heaven, and is disgraceful.

The Lord questions Arjuna about the cause of his sorrow at the time of war, stating that it is only befitting for ignoble people, does not lead to heaven, and destroys fame.

Lord Krishna asks Arjuna, ‘Arjuna, how has this impurity, this weakness, overcome you at this critical juncture? This kind of behavior is not expected from a noble person (Arya). It neither leads to attainment of heaven nor brings you any glory; instead, it diminishes your reputation’. Here ‘Arya’ refers to those who possess noble qualities and follow the path of righteousness. As a Kshatriya, Arjuna’s duty is to fight for justice, and turning away from it would bring dishonor.

ಶ್ರೀ ಶುಭಕರ, ಮಂಗಳಕರ.		Blessed, auspicious Represents auspiciousness, prosperity, and divinity.
भगवान्	ಭಗವಾನ್		bhagavān
ಭಗವಾನ್ ಭಗವಂತ, ದೇವರು.		The Lord Refers to the Supreme Being, possessing all divine qualities.
उवाच	ಉವಾಚ		uvāca
ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ ನುಡಿಯುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.		Said Spoke, uttered.

कुतः	ಕುತಃ		kutaḥ
ಹೇಗೆ ಯಾವ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಕಾರಣ.		How In what way, by what means.
त्वा	ತ್ವಾ		tvā
ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು, ನಿನಗೆ.		To you, unto you.
कश्मलम्	ಕಶ್ಮಲಂ		kaśmalam
ಕಲ್ಮಶ ಮೋಹ, ಗೊಂದಲ, ದುಃಖ.		Delusion Confusion, impurity, weakness, distress.
इदं	ಇದಂ		idaṁ
ಇದು ಈ.		This, this one.
विषमे	ವಿಷಮೇ		viṣame
ಕಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಕಟದಲ್ಲಿ, ವಿಷಮ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ.		In crisis In a difficult situation, in a time of distress.
समुपस्थितम्	ಸಮುಪಸ್ಥಿತಮ್		samupasthitam
ಉಂಟಾಯಿತು ಬಂತು, ಸಂಭವಿಸಿತು.		Overcome Arisen, come upon, presented itself.

Meaning¶

ಇದು ಆರ್ಯರಲ್ಲದವರಿಗೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದುದು, ಸ್ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಒಯ್ಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಮತ್ತು ಕೀರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನಾಶಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಅರ್ಜುನ.

It is uncharacteristic of noble persons, does not lead to heaven, and is disgraceful, Arjuna.

अनार्यजुष्टम्	ಅನಾರ್ಯಜುಷ್ಟಮ್		anāryajuṣṭam
ಆರ್ಯರಲ್ಲದವರಿಗೆ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಗುಣಗಳಿಲ್ಲದವರಿಗೆ, ಸಜ್ಜನರಲ್ಲದವರಿಗೆ.		Uncharacteristic of noble persons Not befitting those of noble character, not practiced by Aryans.
अस्वर्ग्यम्	ಅಸ್ವರ್ಗ್ಯಮ್		asvargyam
ಸ್ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಒಯ್ಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಸ್ವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ತಲುಪಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.		Does not lead to heavenly abodes.
अकीर्तिकरम्	ಅಕೀರ್ತಿಕರಮ್		akīrtikaram
ಕೀರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನಾಶಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಗೌರವವನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.		Is disgraceful Brings dishonor, causes infamy.
अर्जुन	ಅರ್ಜುನ		arjuna
ಅರ್ಜುನ, ಕುಂತಿಯ ಮಗ.		Arjuna, the son of Kunti.
