श्रीभगवानुवाच ।

ऊर्ध्वमूलमधःशाखमश्वत्थं प्राहुरव्ययम् ।

छन्दांसि यस्य पर्णानि यस्तं वेद स वेदवित् ॥

Meaning / Summary

यह श्लोक संसार की क्षणभंगुरता और परमात्मा से उसके संबंध को दर्शाता है। यह वेदों के ज्ञान के महत्व पर जोर देता है और बताता है कि संसार की वास्तविकता को समझने से ही वेदों का वास्तविक ज्ञान प्राप्त होता है।

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा: संसार एक ऐसे अश्वत्थ वृक्ष के समान है जिसकी जड़ें ऊपर की ओर (परमात्मा में) और शाखाएँ नीचे की ओर (संसार में) हैं, जिसके पत्ते वैदिक मंत्र हैं। जो इस वृक्ष को जानता है, वही वेदों का ज्ञाता है।

इस श्लोक में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण संसार को एक उल्टे अश्वत्थ वृक्ष के समान बताते हैं, जिसकी जड़ें ऊपर और शाखाएँ नीचे की ओर हैं। इसके पत्ते वैदिक मंत्र हैं और जो इसे जानता है, वही वेदों का ज्ञाता है।

श्री कृष्ण कहते हैं कि यह संसार एक उल्टे अश्वत्थ वृक्ष के समान है। इसकी जड़ें ऊपर की ओर परमात्मा में स्थित हैं, जो इस वृक्ष का मूल कारण हैं। इसकी शाखाएँ नीचे की ओर फैली हुई हैं, जो संसार के विभिन्न लोकों और प्राणियों का प्रतिनिधित्व करती हैं। इस वृक्ष के पत्ते वैदिक मंत्र हैं, जो कर्मकांडों और ज्ञान को दर्शाते हैं। जो व्यक्ति इस संसार रूपी वृक्ष के रहस्य को जानता है, वही वास्तव में वेदों का ज्ञाता है, क्योंकि वह सृष्टि के मूल और उसके कार्यप्रणाली को समझता है।
