इदं शरीरं कौन्तेय क्षेत्रमित्यभिधीयते ।
एतद्यो वेत्ति तं प्राहुः क्षेत्रज्ञ इति तद्विदः ॥

ઇદં શરીરં કૌન્તેય ક્ષેત્રમિત્યભિધીયતે ।
એતદ્યો વેત્તિ તં પ્રાહુઃ ક્ષેત્રજ્ઞ ઇતિ તદ્વિદઃ ॥

Meaning / Summary¶
આ શ્લોક શરીર અને આત્મા વચ્ચેનો ભેદ સમજાવે છે. શરીર એ ક્ષેત્ર છે જ્યાં કર્મો થાય છે, જ્યારે આત્મા એ ક્ષેત્રજ્ઞ છે જે આ કર્મોનો સાક્ષી છે.
શ્રી ભગવાને કહ્યું: હે કૌન્તેય! આ શરીરને ‘ક્ષેત્ર’ કહેવામાં આવે છે, અને જે આ શરીરને જાણે છે, તેને તત્વજ્ઞાની લોકો ‘ક્ષેત્રજ્ઞ’ કહે છે.
ભગવાન કહે છે કે આ શરીર ક્ષેત્ર છે અને જે તેને જાણે છે તે ક્ષેત્રજ્ઞ છે.
ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણ અર્જુનને કહે છે કે આ જે શરીર છે, તેને ‘ક્ષેત્ર’ એટલે કે ખેતર કહેવામાં આવે છે. ખેતર જેમ બીજ વાવવા માટેનું સ્થાન છે, તેમ આ શરીર પણ કર્મો કરવા માટેનું સાધન છે. અને જે આ શરીરને જાણે છે, એટલે કે શરીરના સ્વભાવ, તેના કાર્યો અને તેની મર્યાદાઓને જાણે છે, તેને તત્વજ્ઞાની લોકો ‘ક્ષેત્રજ્ઞ’ કહે છે. ક્ષેત્રજ્ઞ એટલે ક્ષેત્રને જાણવાવાળો, આત્મા.
This verse explains the difference between the body and the soul. The body is the field where actions take place, while the soul is the knower of the field who witnesses these actions.
The Supreme Lord said: This body, O son of Kunti, is called the field, and one who knows this body is called the knower of the field by those who know.
The Lord says that this body is the field and the one who knows it is the knower of the field.
Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that this body is called the ‘field’ (kshetra). Just as a field is a place for sowing seeds, this body is an instrument for performing actions. And one who knows this body, that is, knows the nature of the body, its functions, and its limitations, is called ‘knower of the field’ (kshetrajna) by the knowledgeable. Kshetrajna means the one who knows the field, the Self.
