भवाप्ययौ हि भूतानां श्रुतौ विस्तरशो मया ।

त्वत्तः कमलपत्राक्ष माहात्म्यमपि चाव्ययम् ॥

bhavāpyayau hi bhūtānāṁ śrutau vistaraśo mayā।

tvattaḥ kamalapatrākṣa māhātm्यamapi cāvyayam॥

Meaning / Summary

This shloka emphasizes the importance of listening to and understanding divine knowledge. Arjuna acknowledges that he has received profound insights from Krishna, highlighting the value of a guru-disciple relationship and the power of revealed wisdom.

I have heard from you in detail about the origin and dissolution of beings, as well as your imperishable greatness, O lotus-eyed one.

Arjuna tells Krishna that he has heard in detail about the origin and destruction of all beings and his unending greatness from Krishna himself.

Arjuna acknowledges that he has heard in detail from Krishna about the creation and destruction of all beings, and also about Krishna’s infinite and unchanging glory. He addresses Krishna as ‘lotus-eyed one’ signifying his beautiful and auspicious nature.

And also, O lotus-eyed one, about your imperishable greatness, from you.

Meaning of Words

त्वत्तः	tvattaḥ	from yourself (Krishna), originating from you
कमलपत्राक्ष	kamalapatrākṣa
O lotus-eyed one kamala means lotus, patra means petal and aksha means eyes. This is an address to Krishna, signifying his beauty and purity.
माहात्म्यम्	māhātm्यam	greatness glory, majesty, supreme power
